April 30, 2014, marks the one year anniversary of the abdication of Queen Beatrix and inauguration of her eldest son, Prince Willem-Alexander as King of the Netherlands.
The 28th of January of last year, the Dutch people were surprised by a national broadcast in which the Queen, Beatrix, made a speech to announce her abdication from her duties, and leaving them to future generations. After a gala with royals from all around the world, the Queen signed the Abdication and the Prince Willem-Alexander was inaugurated with his wife, Máxima, as King and Queen of the Netherlands. The day continued with a water pageant and concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Armin Van Buuren among others.
