Princess Mako, a granddaughter of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, graduated Wednesday from International Christian University in Tokyo.
"I enjoyed and will never forget the four years of my college life," the 22-year-old eldest daughter of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko said in a written reply to questions from reporters.
Princess Mako majored in art and cultural heritage at ICU and was a member of the ski club. She also studied at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland for about nine months during her junior year.
On the subject of marriage, she said, “I just hope to marry not too late or too early.” [x]
Michiko Shoda (later Empress Michiko), born 1934, was the first commoner to marry into the Japanese Imperial Family. She married Crown Prince Akihito (later Emperor Akihito) in 1959.
